Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports Launches National Youth Policy, 2014 and Rajiv Gandhi Khel Abhiyan

National Youth Policy, 2014 (NYP) and Rajiv Gandhi Khel Abhiyan (RGKA), a Centrally Sponsored Plan Scheme were launched at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi today. The Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Youth Affairs & Sports, Shri Jitendra Singh, Shri Rahul Gandhi, MP, Sports Personalities Mary Kom, Vijender Singh, P. Gopichand, Ashwini Nachappa, Ronjan Sodhi, Karnam Malleswari, Ashish Kumar and several other dignitaries were present on the occasion.

Rajiv Gandhi Adventure Scheme

The Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Youth Affairs & Sports Shri Jitendra Singh has said that with a view to promote adventure activities among student youth, “Rajiv Gandhi Adventure Scheme”, a component under National Service Scheme (NSS) was launched on 26th June, 2009. Under this component, camps are conducted all over the country from Himalayan Region in the North to Kannur and Thekkadi in South India, on a yearly basis for which financial assistance have been provided to regional Centres of National Service Scheme(NSS) by the Ministry. The adventure activities undertaken in these camps include trekking, mountaineering, white water rafting, para-sailing, para-gliding and basic skiing.

Activities of Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan

The Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Youth Affairs & Sports Shri Jitendra Singh has said that in order to make Sangathan more effective and objective -oriented as well as to strengthen the movement of Youth Clubs, Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS) prepares its Annual Action Plan every year after several consultative meetings with field functionaries of NYKS and officials of Ministry.

Rajiv Gandhi National Institute for Youth Development

The Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Youth Affairs & Sports Shri Jitendra Singh has said that Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development (RGNIYD) was established in March 1993 at Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu as a registered body. RGNIYD became deemed to be University in the year 2008 under section 3 of UGC act 1956. RGNIYD has now been converted into an Institution of National Importance by the Act of Parliament on 30.08.2012. The mandate of the Institute is as under:-
