The National Programme for Youth and Adolescent Development (NPYAD) is a
sub-scheme under the umbrella scheme Rashtriya Yuva Sashaktikaran
Karyakram (RYSK) of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports,
Department of Youth Affairs. The scheme provides financial assistance to
eligible Government and non-Government organisations for undertaking approved
programmes and activities aimed at the holistic development, empowerment and
engagement of youth and adolescents.
The broad programme areas covered under NPYAD include
Youth Leadership and Personality Development;
Promotion of National Integration;
Promotion of Adventure;
Development and Empowerment of Adolescents; and
Technical and Resource Development.
The NPYAD Scheme has been operational since 1 April 2008.
Major activities undertaken under the Scheme include the organisation of the
National Youth Festival, restructured as the
Viksit Bharat Young Leaders Dialogue (VBYLD);
conferment of the National Youth Awards (NYA) and the
Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Awards (TNNAA);
organisation of the North East Youth Festival (NEYF);
provision of Share Grants to the
Himalayan Mountaineering Institute (HMI) and the
Jawahar Institute of Mountaineering & Winter Sports (JIM&WS);
and provision of Grant-in-Aid to eligible Government and non-Government
organisations for undertaking activities focused on youth and adolescent
development.
Through these interventions, the NPYAD Scheme seeks to promote youth
leadership, national integration, adventure, innovation, social
responsibility and the overall development and empowerment of young people
and adolescents.
