Youth Hostels
The Youth Hostel Scheme is a Central Sector Scheme of the Government of India aimed at promoting youth travel by providing safe, affordable and budget-friendly accommodation to students, youth groups and other travellers undertaking educational excursions, study tours and visits to places of historical, cultural and tourist importance. The scheme seeks to encourage young people to travel across the country and gain a deeper understanding of India's rich cultural heritage, traditions, geographical diversity and natural beauty.
Youth Hostels function as a "Home Away from Home" and provide community-based accommodation that promotes interaction, friendship, cooperation and mutual understanding among hostellers from different parts of the country. The scheme also encourages values such as self-reliance, responsible citizenship and national integration by bringing together youth from diverse social, cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
The hostels operate on a non-commercial basis and offer economical accommodation to make travel accessible to youth with limited financial means. Besides providing lodging facilities, Youth Hostels serve as centres for educational, cultural, adventure and youth development activities, thereby fostering experiential learning and meaningful engagement among young people.
Accommodation in the functional Youth Hostels may be booked by contacting the respective Youth Hostel over telephone. A list containing the contact details of all functional Youth Hostels is enclosed for the convenience of prospective visitors.
