Financial assistance to Scouts & Guides Increased
The Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports has enhanced the financial assistance to Bharat Scouts & Guides for organizing the training camps and holding of Jamborees etc. The increase in the financial assistance under the Scheme of Scouting & Guiding ranges between 40 to 50 percent of the prevailing norms. The Ministry will also provide higher allocation to the Bharat Scouts & Guides for Scouting and Guiding.
The Scheme of Scouting and Guiding, a Central Scheme, was launched in the early 1980s, to promote the Scouts and Guides movement in the country. The enhanced funding by the Ministry will strengthen the scouting & guiding movement in the country, which aims at building character, confidence and spirit of patriotism and service among young boys and girls. This will help in organizing training camps, skill development programmes and jamborees for development of youth.
The Bharat Scouts & Guides, New Delhi has been financially assisted by the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports for conducting various Scouts & Guides activities. During the year 2007-08, 203 programmes were conducted by them and a sum of Rs. 157.59 lakhs was sanctioned to them. During the current financial year, a budget provision of Rs.300 lakhs has been made for this scheme, which also includes Rs. 30 lakhs for North Eastern Region.
The Bharat Scouts and Guides is the largest voluntary, non-political, educational movement in the country open to all without distinction of origin, race or creed, in accordance with the purposes, principles and methods conceived by the founder, Lord Baden Powell, in 1907. It has network through out the country including Kendriya Vidyalayas, Navodaya Vidyalayas and Indian Railways. It has a total membership of the 41.10 lakhs Rovers & Rangers.
