Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Awards, instituted in 1991-92, are given to sportspersons to recognize their most spectacular and outstanding performance in the field of sports over a period of four years immediately preceding the year during which award is to be given. It includes a medal, certificate, ceremonial dress and a cash prize of ₹25 lakh. List of Awardees are attached.
