Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development (RGNIYD)

The Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development (RGNIYD) is an Institute of National Importance, established by the Government of India and functioning under the aegis of the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports. Set up in 1993 as an autonomous organization, the Institute was accorded the status of National Importance by an Act of Parliament in 2012.

Located at Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu, the Institute serves as the apex National Resource Centre for youth development, policy research, training, and capacity building. RGNIYD is mandated to develop skilled human resources in the youth sector and to support evidence-based youth policy formulation and implementation.

The Institute offers postgraduate programmes on its campus and also has MoUs with other organizations such as ATDC and WWI (Mumbai), offering various degree, diploma, and certificate courses.

RGNIYD conducts training programmes for government officials, youth workers, and civil society organizations. The Institute actively undertakes research, documentation, advocacy, and consultancy in diverse areas of youth development, including education, employment, social inclusion, leadership, entrepreneurship, sports, health, and community engagement.

RGNIYD also functions as a think tank for the Ministry, providing policy inputs, impact assessments, and best practices in youth-related interventions.

Through national and international collaborations, outreach initiatives, and field-based engagement, RGNIYD contributes to the holistic development and empowerment of youth, aligning its activities with national priorities and global commitments related to youth development.

RGNIYD continues to play a pivotal role in strengthening institutional capacities and advancing the Government of India’s vision of harnessing the demographic dividend for inclusive and sustainable national development.
